Srinagar, Mar 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed the Legislative Assembly that a total of 1,876 fire incidents have been reported across the Union Territory over the past three years. Replying to a question raised by Ali Mohammad Sagar, the Minister in charge of the Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Department said
that financial assistance amounting to Rs 1,799.09 lakh (Rs 17.99 crore) has been provided to affected victims under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). The Minister stated that relief is being extended in accordance with the notified norms and items of assistance under the SDRF, which covers victims of natural calamities, including fire incidents. The Minister
further informed the House that these norms are part of a uniform, pan-India framework applicable for the period 2022 to 2025–26. Any revision to the assistance norms, he added, falls within the jurisdiction of the Government of India. The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring timely relief to affected families in line with established guidelines.
